My personal favorite for getting started with drum solos is (One-Minute) Drum Solo (Cut #6) on
Belly Dance for Fortune and Fame produced by Stella Grey of NYC and performed by the Mogadur Band.
I've used this to teach drum solos to advanced beginners and early intermediate students, and several students have
selected it for performance - all with great success! It's short length does not make it overly simplistic; there is some
musical complexity here. But at the same time, with just 8 sections of 2 8-count measures each, plus a final measure, it is
well within your choreographic reach.
