The Goddess Within --- a Journey
The Alay'nya Studio Presents: Spring Concert III
Part ritural, part celebration, part a tribal
gathering ...
Part art, part camp, part tradition,
part show ...
And part good old fashioned fun with host Rafi's
wonderful food, ambience, and service ...
The Spring Concert series has become the place where No. VA's
and sometimes DC's, New York's, Europe's, Africa's, and Australia's more
interesting performers do their more interesting works.
For simple entertainment with a good meal, we recommend any
other dinner theatre. But if you want a hearty main course
of exceptional dance, accompainied with a little stimulation,
a little provokation, a little ... (sometimes
very little ... did you see what Amustela's 'almost
wearing' in her role as Aphrodite?) ... something special.
Something to take the mundane off
the day, give you something interesting to take
to the water cooler on Monday, and something that might even
make you ask ... "Could there possibly
be ...?"

Why the different aspects of "Goddess" ...
Sacred Woman, Sacred Dance
To us, being sacred relates more to being
set apart than it relates
to something that has a specific religious meaning. Likewise, being profane
has more to do with being everyday or ordinary than it does with something that
is a violation of the sacred. This is why Mircea Eliade's ideas about
sacred space
and
sacred time
are relevant to our performance. We are actually creating both a sacred space
and a sacred time when we perform for you.

Could you stand to be a goddess?
Think of it. To stop exerting effort. To just be. To stop chasing the world,
and let it come to you. To allow others to focus on you and your needs;
to accept praise; to accept gifts, compliments, favors, and simply acknowledge them
with your blessing.
Suppose you need to get something done. A mortal struggles with the task.
A goddess relaxes in her chair, makes the request, and sits back in repose,
knowing it will be done. No exertion, no worrying.
A challenge to those who live as mortals, isn't it?
A re you ready to be a goddess?
- Maha Najeeb

|
Isn't this interesting? Maybe Maha's just being "tongue-in-cheek." Maybe
she's opening her - and our - eyes up to something!
WHAT IF?
Isn't this what "effortless power" is all about - the focal
point for all martial arts studies? But if Men are
from Mars, Women are from Venus,
why shouldn't we find an equivalent - and as powerful - a
path as we practice women's multicultural dance?"
What
if each of us could dance her way into being a goddess? Isn't
that a radical thought for the day?

We are reaching back to very ancient roots - to a time when
expression of art and experience of the sacred were often
one and the same. We are bringing this perspective into the
present day, so that creating art, even in the context of
a dinner theatre - is also a means for creating community,
and both
experiencing and expressing the sacred in our lives.
