VEIL PLAY - with The Alay'nya Studio

Spring Quarter Veil Studies

Come out from your winter coccoon - and play! Wrap in your veil and be mysterious. Release your veil and be a butterfly!

Alay'nya, in a recent performance

Veil Syllabi will be entered soon

Recommended Music:

We'll be using two cuts from Omar Farouk Tekbelik's Mystical Garden for two new "etudes." We'll use Shashkin (Cut #4), with it's sprightly Sai'idi rhythm, for practicing more precise pelvic work in the basic Arabic step, and adding undulations to our turns. We'll also introduce two short-range, mid-tempo "movement across the floor" techniques:

  • The Crossing-step-touch, and.
  • The basic Rhumba step.

In addition, we'll use "Hasret" (Cut #5) for developing very precise, in-place veil work - a chance for you to perfect basic technique. (This is a beautiful piece, and will expand well to more complex interpretations.)

Practicing At Home

Alay'nya's Most-Recommended CD for Veil Play!
Two great pieces that we use as etudes, and my most recommended CD for spring

If you want to buy a CD this spring, and have already built up your basic core set, this is the first one that I recommend.
