WINTER SYLLABUS - with The Alay'nya Studio By completing the Winter Quarter with the Alay'nya Studio, you will gain:
WINTER QUARTER STUDIES We're grounding through earthy dances with strong beledi rhythms. Level 1 students are learning basic grounding and alignment; Level 2 are learning to restructure their bodies -- using "intrinsic strength" in core muscles, along with hips and thighs. As we transfer the "work" to our larger, lower-body muscles, we can release tension in our necks and backs. This means that our dance becomes much more relaxed and yet -- incongruous but true -- more powerful at the same time. We're learning how to interpret the music to which we dance, finding natural movements and combinations that come from innate body rhythms. We're also learning how to play our zills with these rhythms, focusing on a very natural, easy way to incorporate the exciting counterpoint of zill patterns with the musical and dance compositions.
